What is spray tanning?

Spray tanning uses products with an active chemical called dihydroxyacetone (DHA) to help you achieve a natural bronze glow, even in the dead of winter. DHA isn’t absorbed into your body, and it’s been shown to have no health risks. Instead, when this colorless chemical comes in contact with your skin’s naturally occurring amino acids, the skin cells darken several shades.

How does spray tanning work?

Professional spray tanning at Sublime Aesthetic Professionals is quick and easy. A thin mist of tanning solution is sprayed onto the areas you’d like to tan, and as the DHA reacts with your skin, the treated areas become a natural-looking tan.

How long will my tan last?

Most spray tans last 7-10 days, which is how long DHA typically reacts with the amino acids in your skin. There are steps you can take to help make your glow last.

Here are our top tips for keeping your spray tan longer:

  • If possible, wax away unwanted hair about two days before your appointment.
  • If you don’t wax, shave 12 hours before your appointment.
  • The day of your appointment, shower and exfoliate your skin well.
  • Avoid using lotions before your spray tan.
  • For the most natural results, don’t wear makeup.
  • Wear loose, dark clothing to and from and salon, and skip any tight underwear.
  • Avoid showering and exercise that makes you sweat for 12 hours after your tan.

For the longest-lasting results, don’t exfoliate your skin between tanning, and steer clear of chlorinated water and lotions that contain harsh chemicals.

What are the benefits of spray tanning?

If you’re hoping to tan this winter, spray tanning offers the best solution. Indoor, light-based tanning beds use UV rays to induce a sun-kissed glow, but those rays are dangerous to your health. In fact, recent studies show that participants increased their risk of life-threatening melanoma by 75% after just one UV-based indoor tanning session.

In addition to providing a safe alternative to UV tanning, spray tans give you a more natural and even tan, without the lines tanning beds leave. And spray tanning offers faster, more effective results. Unlike indoor tanning beds, which require multiple visits each week, with spray tanning you can get instant results after one visit.
