Have you avoided the sun this summer because of the way it prematurely ages your skin, but are still longing for that sun-kissed look? Maybe you’ve thought about spray tanning, but are worried your skin will have a fake orange hue.

Fear not. At Sublime Aesthetic Professionals in East Grand Forks, Minnesota, our team of expert care providers offers professional spray tanning that gives you the golden skin of summer you’ve longed to have — no orange allowed.

Read on to learn more about spray tans and how you can get a healthy glow without harmful UV rays.

What is a spray tan?

Professional spray tanning at Sublime Aesthetic Professionals is simple and fast. A light mist of tanning solution is applied to your skin in the areas you’d like to tan. Any area that’s covered will have tan lines.

Spray tanning is a safer alternative to UV tanning (both with the sun and indoor beds), plus you’ll enjoy instant results instead of waiting weeks for your skin to color.

Will my spray tan look natural?

You betcha! The active chemical in spray tanning products is something called dihydroxyacetone (DHA). When this colorless chemical comes in contact with your skin’s own amino acids, it causes your skin to darken several shades.

The result is an even, natural bronze glow that gives you a sun-kissed look without any fake coloring. What’s more? Since DHA isn’t absorbed into your body, there are no health risks, meaning you can maintain your tan all year long without worry!

When your tan is applied, we use a guide color to help direct results. This color always looks darker than the finished result once washed off in the shower. However, if after your tan you’re worried that your skin is too dark, you can always rinse off earlier than the recommended six to eight hours.

How long with my spray tan last?

Spray tans usually last between 7-10 days, about how long the DHA continues to react with the amino acids in your skin. To keep your spray tan for as long as possible, follow our top tips for extending your tan:

  • Wax unwanted hair two days before your appointment.
  • If you can’t wax away hair, shave 12 hours before your appointment.
  • Shower and exfoliate your skin well the day of your tan.
  • Do not use any lotions before your spray tan.
  • For the most natural-looking results, arrive makeup free.
  • Wear loose, dark clothing to and from the tanning appointment.
  • Do not wear any tight underwear.
  • Skip exercise that makes you sweat for 12 hours after your tan.
  • Avoid long showers or baths to keep your tan longer.
  • Moisturize twice a day after your spray tan.

To keep your tan for as long as possible, don’t exfoliate your skin after tanning, and stay away from chlorinated water and lotions with harsh chemicals.
